Winston Churchill Memorial Trust

March 2015

Ric Preece, one of our Project Leaders here at Opus, was awarded a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship to travel to Germany, Scandinavia and the US researching best practice in the training of furniture makers. A furniture maker himself, Ric used the opportunity to visit some of the world’s most respected fine woodworking schools and workshops to observe what works and what doesn’t in the passing on of these important skills.

“It’s important to us at Opus that we continue to pass on our craft skills to the makers who join our team here. I will use my experiences abroad to improve the training and guidance I provide to the furniture makers I work with in my role at Opus Magnum as well as starting new conversations about the merits of what I have seen on this trip. This started with a presentation and Q&A session with furniture makers at Opus Magnum and I’ll shortly be submitting my Fellowship Report which will be available as a reference for all on” Says Ric on reflection.
