Founded in 1989 by Jonathan Baulkwill and Chris Turner, Opus Magnum has always focused on high quality design, innovation and craftsmanship.
From early experiments with new materials and user-centred design to landmark projects like the Weston Library in Oxford, the Nicole Farhi flagship in New York and the British Parliament, our finely tuned skillset and forward-thinking approach continue to shape our work.
We combine traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, whether installing cutting-edge fittings for corporate spaces or carefully refurbishing listed buildings, and the pride we take is evident in every detail and in furniture that stands the test of time.
Opus Magnum is powered by a dedicated team who love what they do, ensuring exceptional design and craftsmanship on every project, and in 2023 this commitment was recognised when the founders transferred 100% of the company into an Employee Ownership Trust for the benefit of all employees.
Our way
We live for extraordinary design.
It’s not just what we do, it’s who we are.
We see no limitations, only possibilities, especially when it comes to materials. We love working with different wood varieties, but what separates us from more conventional joinery firms is our deep understanding of other materials.
We’re always experimenting with new types of glass, steel, plastic and even aluminium honeycomb. This approach means we can present you with the best solution for your space and budget.
Then there’s the design itself.
Sometimes clients come to us with what they want, safe in the knowledge we have the experience and creativity to realise their vision. Others come to us with just an idea and it’s our job to explore the possibilities.
That’s what we love. That’s where our skills come into their own because we don’t just manufacture furniture, we problem solve and we’re great at finding answers no one else has thought about.

Different works well for us. It always has, so we keep doing it.
Unlike most commercial furniture companies, we craft all our furniture in our own workshop in South West London.
That’s our key to quality. We invest in the best equipment and the best people (a magical combination). We’re here to make the best commercial furniture, not the most.
Building good relationships is just as important as building good furniture. So, from design to installation, one team or individual will take full ownership of your project.
